Otto
We sure do love our animals here at Eastlook Blooms and this winter has provided it’s share of ups and downs with them. First, we sadly share that Otto, our 13 year old Havanese, passed away in February. He had been dealing with a collapsed trachea condition that we learned is common in smaller breads. We were providing supportive care for him since diagnosed a couple of years ago but this winter the issues became worse until he couldn’t fight any longer. He was quite the character and those who knew him surely have stories to tell about him scratching their legs for attention (or a sip of beer), sneaking out of our yard for a little “walk about” or sharing his grouchy old man attitude in not so subtle ways. He was a little dog with a big dog attitude, happily joining the children for all their excursions and milestones. We’re all missing him dearly, especially Hendrix, who’s figuring out how to dog without his best buddy.

Hendrix
We love our “more looks than brains” Portuguese water dog, Hendrix. He’s the friendliest, barkiest, cutest goober around. His favorite past times are running, paddleboarding or kayaking with me, following me around, fretting about me leaving, wondering where I am and waiting for me to come home. When he’s not doing those things he can be found carrying around my clothing, lying on my bed and sleeping. Currently he’s learning how to dog without Otto. He won’t eat unless I sit next to him and won’t go outside unless one of us walks outside with him, both holdovers of him always waiting for Otto to take the lead. Poor guy misses his bestie.

TeTe
TeTe, our rescue tabby cat, gave us a fright in January when she disappeared for eight days. Despite blanketing the neighborhood with flyers, spamming social media with pleas to keep an eye out for her and searching back yards, she was nowhere to be found for over a week. It was only after we were hit with a heavy snowfall that I found her. I had been calling to her several times a day but it took a heavy blanket of snow to provide the quiet for me to finally hear her faint meows coming from a neighbor’s garage. It turns out she had gotten herself trapped and heartbreakingly unable to get out until we found her. We are so very grateful for everyone who looked for her and shared their concern. We love our little TeTe and are so happy she’s back at Eastlook Blooms! TeTe enjoys sleeping in her heated cat house, sitting on sunny window sills, greeting flower cart visitors, chasing chipmunks, getting up in my business in the garden, and begging for food and scratches.
Back story on TeTe, we discovered her a few years ago in our garage, pregnant and looking for a home for her and her soon to come babies. We more than obliged and thanks to the support of my friend Margaret who fostered TeTe after her babies arrived, TeTe’s kittens were all adopted out and after her maternity leave she was returned to us at Eastlook Blooms. Side note, Margaret fosters through Lucky Paws, an amazing non-profit organization in Cleveland Ohio dedicated to improving the lives of abandoned, abused, and over-looked animals. They do wonderful work and accept donations on their website.
